Welcome to Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery is a short-term intervention program for first time first graders.  The program offers intensive one-on-one daily lessons in valuable reading and writing strategies.

The goal of Reading Recovery is for the students to overcome areas of weakness in order to become an independent reader.  It is our hope that each Reading Recovery student will be able to read on at least the average classroom reading level after approximately sixty Reading Recovery lessons.

     Each lesson consists of:

  • Fluent writing review
  • Familiar rereading
  • “make and break” words
  • writing, cutting, and sequencing an original story
  • new book introduction
  • first reading of the new book
